Men and Women Cops Equal

May 25th, 2008 by GiGi

kickass-policewoman.jpgIt seems the Greek Police are getting with the 21st century.

A Greek court has ruled that the country’s police do not have the right to bar women shorter than 1.7 metres (five feet, six inches) from joining the force.

The decision from the administrative appeals court came after a woman slightly under the height requirement filed a challenge to the policy. The woman is 1.65 metres tall.

Feminist groups said the height limit, which was previously 1.65 metres for women and 1.7 metres for men, discriminated against females. The decision came after a woman (she was 1.65 meters tall) filed a challenge to the policy.

Now if we could just get the police worldwide to insist on bust sizes of nothing less than 38C - everyone would be happy!

No Martinis For Australians

May 23rd, 2008 by GiGi

martinimermaid.jpgIt looks like Australia will be suffering the next time they cozy up to a bar and order a martini.

It appears that nearly 5 tons of olives disappeared from the trees in groves surrounding Sydney.

What made the disappearance particularly strange was its thoroughness.

“It takes six people about three days to pick our groves and we don’t bother with the top of some of the higher trees, but these guys stripped the trees from top to bottom and they even took the olives off the ground.” said a local grower.

The most likely answer is a very large team of thieves who descended on the groves during the night.

But even that left lots of unanswered questions about why nobody heard them or saw lights, and how the trees were stripped so thoroughly.

“How do you pick at night? You need lights, and nobody has seen any evidence of lights,” Jan Rees of Warraroong Estate, another victim, told The Australian newspaper.

“The police were called, came and looked and scratched their heads and are on the case and taking it seriously,” von Essen said.

German Wild Pigs Capture Thief For Police

May 23rd, 2008 by GiGi

wildboar.jpgGerman police will take any extra help they can get it seems.

Police in Berlin, Germany were in hot pursuit of a young thief who had stolen a SUV. The young man decided to abandon his vehicle and made his getaway via a local forest.

Officers then heard the fugitive shouting for help — he had run into a herd of angry wild boars that were not exactly happy with the stranger invading their turf
Police freed the man from the boars and took him into custody.

Wild boars are a common sight in forested areas of northern Germany. They often make themselves at home in residential neighborhoods, too, uprooting gardens and annoying homeowners.

Big Foot Sighted In Germany

May 22nd, 2008 by GiGi

volvo, bigfootIt seems that Volvo is one of the world’s finest built cars but they forgot to accommodate for customers with big feet.

A local “bigfoot” out of Wiesloch,Germany just sued a local Volvo dealer because there was not enough space around his new car’s accelerator pedal.

The German bigfoot won a 5% reduction in the price of his Volvo coupe by arguing that his leather shoes, European size 47 (approximately Size 12 in the US) did not fit beneath the dashboard.

The Volvo buyer a refund to pay for a pair of running shoes that would fit into the space, as well as his time changing back into street shoes each time he got out of the car to meet clients.

The judge in the court said size 47 was not abnormally large and the Swedish-made car should have catered for big feet.

Blog On Penis Theives Turns Deadly

May 21st, 2008 by GiGi

mob.jpgIn mid April I blogged on the “Penis Theives” from the Republic of the Congo. The police had apparently arrested 13 suspected sorcerers accused of using black magic to steal or shrink men’s penises after a wave of panic and attempted lynchings triggered by the alleged witchcraft.

Police arrested the accused sorcerers and their victims in an effort to avoid the sort of bloodshed seen in Ghana a decade ago, when 12 suspected penis snatchers were beaten to death by angry mobs.

While I made light of the initial posting, my humor is sour in my mouth today as reports out of Kenya confirm that a angry mob of some 100 individuals attacked and burnt to death 13 women accused of witchcraft.

The gang of about 100 people moved from house to house late Tuesday, tied up their victims and set them ablaze.

The region, populated mainly by the Kisii tribe, has been dubbed Kenya’s “sorcery belt” due to mob attacks on women suspected of witchcraft.

Efforts by the authorities to clamp down on vigilante and mob justice have been unsuccessful.

Dozens of suspected people were killed in western Kenya in the 1990s, amid allegations of sorcery.

Several cases were also reported in recent months in neighbouring Tanzania, forcing President Jakaya Kikwete to order special protection for albino, who were being murdered and mutilated for good luck by witchdoctors.

Australian Political Ear Wax Faux Pas

May 19th, 2008 by GiGi

primeminister.jpg

As everyone knows, American’s love to poke fun at their politicians. Usually we can’t wait for some “faux pas”, so we can grind our heels into the neck of the next wannabe power junkie.

Well our Aussie friends managed to catch their Prime Minister in what has to be one of life’s most embarrassing moments.

Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd was recorded nearly 6 years ago on Parliamentary Television eating ear wax. Of course the video didn’t hit the Web until he was a hair’s breath away from becoming the Prime Minister.

Mr. Rudd’s statement on the incident sounded like dozens of other statements issued by politicians over the years….. “All of us in public and private life I’m sure would wish our behavior to be more ideal.”

Rudd, who was elected Labor leader in December last year, has previously told journalists he was scratching his chin.

Catch the video…..

May 19th, 2008 by GiGi

It looks like the joggers have moved out of Grüneburgpark Park in Frankfurt, Germany. Extreme jogging has taken on a new face as jogging fanatics once again participated in Frankfurt’s “sky run”.

Frankfurt’s Landmark Tower is the scene for one of the world’s most unusual jogging races. Jogging fanatics, Firefighters and American football players dressed in full gear race up 61 floors and over 1,000 steps. The participants are supported by cheerleaders at the start and in strategic locations on the run.

The race was won for the 2nd year in a row by Matthais Jahn. Catch the video…..

Turkey Smoked Out

May 19th, 2008 by GiGi

oldsmoker.jpgTurks are about to get a rude awakening today. A prohibition on smoking will be phased in from today in what is certain to be a profound culture shock for millions of Turks used to lighting up with impunity regardless of the setting.

Smoking will be banned in enclosed public spaces and buildings, including government facilities, sporting venues, shopping malls and public transport. Hotels will be required to designate rooms and areas for smokers. The move has been prompted by a combination of public health concerns and a desire to bring Turkish law into line with European practices.

Around 25 million of Turkey’s population of 70 million smoke, including 60% of adult men and 11.7% of children.
