Lying Muslim Bride Gets Marriage Annulled

First they passed a law against wearing of Muslim head scarves or hijabs in public schools. Now a Frenchcourt has annulled the marriage of a Muslim couple, because the Muslim bride lied to her husband-to-be claiming she was a virgin.
French Prime Minister François Fillion said an appeal would be lodged so that virginity didn’t become a legal precondition for marriage in France.
French newspapers reported Wednesday that the young woman at the centre of the row was opposing the appeal because the case was already generating humiliating publicity.
The bridegroom’s lawyer said the issue wasn’t the woman’s sexual experience, nor the fact that some in the Muslim community had conservative views of marriage. It was that she had lied to her fiancé, he said.
“In the ruling, there is no word ‘Muslim’, there is no word ‘religion’, there is no word ‘custom.’ And if one speaks of virginity, it is with the term ‘a lie,’” the lawyer told the Associated Press.
